Tour desription

First leg: Saarbrücken – Merzig, approx. 29 miles/47 km
Your first stage takes you from Saarbrücken along the Saar via Völklingen, Saarlouis and Dillingen to Merzig, where you should not miss out on a detour to the World Heritage Site of the Völklingen Ironworks, a unique disused ironworks site, or to Saarlouis, the secret capital of the Saarland. Once you arrive at your destination, you can visit the Werner Freund Wolf Park and the Garden of the Senses.

Second leg: Merzig – Perl, approx. 39 miles/63 km
The following day, you cycle past orchards along the Saarland cycle path to the Saarland wine-growing community of Perl. A visit to the Roman mosaic in Nennig and a detour to the Roman Villa Borg, which gives you an insight into the high bathing culture of the Romans, is particularly worthwhile. Don't miss the Saarland's landmark on your tour and make a detour to the Saar Loop in Mettlach.

Third leg: Perl – Weiskirchen, approx. 37 miles/60 km
On the third day, you will have to tackle the most challenging bit of the tour, leading through the hilly low mountain range area of the Saarland. However, you can shorten your trip and take the bike bus from Merzig to Weiskirchen. Cheeky ...
Starting off in the wine village of Perl, you will cycle past vineyards, unmistakable scenery and ancient villages. Your destination of the day is the climatic spa of Weiskirchen. Here, you can look forward to a relaxed evening in your hotel “Vitalis Zentrum“ which is also a health and spa centre. And, of course, there will be another delicious dinner.

Fourth leg: Weiskirchen – St. Wendel, approx. 36 miles/58,4 km
This part of the way runs on the Saar-Bostalsee cycling route and willl take you through the nature park Saar-Hunsruück to St. Wendel.

Fifth leg: St. Wendel– Kirkel, approx. 31 miles/51 km
Day five will bring you lots of clear views in an enchanting region while cycling up on the Saar-Nahe cycling route. Part of the way coincides with a former Roman road. Your destination is the village of Kirkel. The municipality oozes the spirit of the Middle Ages with a castle ruin located just a few metres from the centre. Dinner will be a gourmet menu – yes, another one – with four-courses and a champagne cocktail.

Sixth leg: Kirkel – Saarbrücken, approx. 34 miles/55km
This is your last day, leading through the picturesque Bliesgau region. If you fancy a short trip over to France, just cycle over to Sarreguemines and then take the Saarbahn train to Saarbrücken. Your trip will end in style here with a freshly brewed Pils waiting for you at the region’s oldest brewery “Stiefelbräu“ accompanied by a typical meal.
